Vijayapura MLA B.P. Yatnal on Sunday criticized former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa for prostrating before Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the 'Abhimanotsava' in Davanagere, marking Shah's 50 years in politics. Yatnal said the act was unbecoming, particularly given Yediyurappa's seniority over Shah in age and political standing.
Yatnal questioned the symbolism of a senior leader bowing before a younger one, stating it sent the wrong message to the public. He added that while respect between party leaders is acceptable, physical gestures of deference like falling at someone's feet were inappropriate in modern political conduct.
Yatnal announced he will soon launch a new political party, tentatively named JCB, drawing leaders from the Janata Party, Congress, and BJP. He said he would begin a statewide tour shortly and ruled out rejoining the BJP as long as the Yediyurappa family remained in charge of the party's Karnataka unit.
Yatnal suggested that national BJP leadership may be moving to distance itself from the Yediyurappa family in Karnataka, though no official action has been taken. He is expected to formalize the launch of his new party within weeks, with initial activities focused on building regional alliances.
