In some instances, nationals have reportedly renounced Indian citizenship, obtained Russian passports, and enlisted. These individuals did not consult Indian authorities and were attracted by temporary monetary incentives. The ministry has not disclosed how many have taken this path.
The warning also flags recruitment networks operating outside formal diplomatic channels. Foreign nationals are being recruited into the Russian armed forces by non-public entities, including volunteer groups. The ministry urges Indians to verify any agent with the Ministry before accepting offers.
The Ministry has issued similar advisories over the past two years, emphasizing the risks of combat zones and legal liabilities. It strongly discourages any attempt to secure release through diplomatic channels.
Officials said the ministry will issue updated guidelines and coordinate with Indian consulates to curb foreign recruitment. The advisory aims to protect citizens amid rising reports of recruitment schemes.
