Two Dead, Four Missing After Boat Capsizes in Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh
Two people, including a 9-year-old girl, have died and four remain missing after a boat capsized in the Yamuna River in Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh, police said Thursday. The incident occurred Wednesday around 7 pm near Kutubpur Patiya hamlet under Bhauli gram panchayat, when a boat carrying nine passengers and the boatman overturned mid-river.
Rescue teams recovered the bodies of Akanksha (9) and Brijrani (25) on Thursday, while four others—Labhyansh (5), Mahesh (6), Aditya (11), and Rani (9)—are still unaccounted for. The boatman, Dheeru, rescued three others: Vishnu, Rinku, and Parul. Heavy rain and rising water levels hampered search operations, with National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force teams deployed.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a probe into the cause of the accident and directed senior police and administrative officials to oversee relief and rescue operations immediately. District Magistrate Abhishek Goyal confirmed that search efforts are ongoing, while BJP MLA Manoj Prajapati stated that compensation will be provided to affected families as per guidelines.
