One hotel worker died and four others remain in critical condition after a fire erupted at a hotel in Malagala near Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, late on Friday, May 8, 2026. The victim, identified as 40-year-old Raj Kumar from Madhya Pradesh, succumbed to severe burn injuries during treatment; he had joined the hotel just 15 days prior to the incident.
The fire, suspected to have originated from a short circuit, rapidly spread through the upper floor where staff quarters were located. At the time, five employees were asleep and were trapped as flames engulfed the rooms. Emergency responders extracted all five, but the intensity of the fire complicated rescue efforts.
The injured workers — Bhima, Shivanand, Satish, and another colleague — are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Police confirmed property damage amounting to several lakhs of rupees. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Hospital officials continue to monitor the condition of the four injured, while authorities are expected to conduct a safety review of the premises in the coming days.
