Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy outlined plans to transform Hyderabad into a signal-free, traffic-optimized city during a Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting on Friday, proposing a three-level transport system of underpasses, surface corridors, and elevated structures. He emphasized that road expansion alone cannot address congestion and called for an integrated multi-modal transport network, including multi-level parking facilities across the city.
Reddy disclosed the state's 'CURE, PURE, RARE' regional development framework: the area within the Outer Ring Road (CURE) will serve as a service hub, the zone between ORR and the proposed Regional Ring Road (PURE) will focus on manufacturing, and the outer RARE zone will prioritize agriculture. The broader 'Telangana Rising-2047' master plan, aimed at sustainable and integrated development, was also presented to the committee.
The government plans to develop the Musi Riverfront with emphasis on cultural heritage, while advancing green mobility through the introduction of electric buses in the RTC fleet and free retrofitting of autorickshaws within the Core Urban Region to electric vehicles. Senior officials provided a detailed PowerPoint presentation on urban infrastructure, drinking water supply, and river rejuvenation initiatives.
The meeting, attended by Committee Chairperson Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, and senior state and central officials, concluded with the panel reviewing the presented plans. The Parliamentary Standing Committee will submit its observations after further consultation with urban development stakeholders.
