Xuanyi Geng of China set a new world record average of 3.71 seconds for solving a 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube at the Deqing Small & Special 2026 event in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, on April 26, 2026. The time was calculated from three of his five solves—3.79, 3.61, and 3.74 seconds—after the fastest (2.80) and slowest (4.33) were discarded, in accordance with World Cube Association rules.
Geng, a teenage speedcuber, previously held the record with an average of 3.84 seconds, set at the Beijing Winter 2026 competition on January 11, 2026. His latest performance underscores continued dominance in the sport and reflects advancements in technique and training within competitive cubing.
The record has been officially recognized by the World Cube Association and highlighted by Guinness World Records on social media. The competition in Huzhou was one of several WCA-sanctioned events scheduled across Asia in 2026.
Geng is expected to compete in the upcoming WCA World Championship in August 2026, where the record will stand unless surpassed.
