Actor Vijay's TVK Wins 108 Seats in Tamil Nadu; Social Media Clout Cited as Key Factor

Actor-politician Vijay's two-year-old party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), won 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. The victory marks a major political debut for the 51-year-old star.
According to a Moneycontrol report, Vijay had already built a substantial public profile through social media before formally entering politics. He joined Instagram in 2023 and has amassed 17 million followers with just 41 posts, averaging 2.6 million likes per post.
The report notes his audience demographics align with key voting blocs. Over 71% of his followers are aged 25-34, and 64% are women. His strongest support comes from Chennai (27.6% of followers), with significant engagement from Dubai, England, and Istanbul.
Data from creator platform Qoruz indicates Vijay holds a 100% audience credibility score, surpassing cricketer Virat Kohli's 80.9%. His engagement rate stands at 15.5%, with his Instagram reels averaging 31.3 million views. This high engagement is attributed to infrequent, non-promotional posts focused on films and social messages.
The report contrasts Vijay's social media performance with that of established Tamil Nadu politicians like M.K. Stalin and Edappadi K. Palaniswami, whose recent posts garnered significantly lower engagement. TVK has begun the process of government formation following its electoral mandate.
