Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said on Friday the investigation into the crash of Air India Flight AI 171, which killed 260 people in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, is in its final stages and expected to be completed within a month. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is leading the probe, and the government is providing full logistical and administrative support without interference.
The flight, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed less than a minute after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport while en route to London Gatwick, killing all on board. The AAIB submitted its preliminary report to the Ministry of Civil Aviation on July 12, 2025. Naidu emphasized the probe's transparency, noting the final report will face international scrutiny as foreign nationals were among the victims.
Naidu also addressed concerns from victims' families over communication gaps and delays in compensation. He said the ministry is monitoring the situation through a dedicated cell and has directed Air India to ensure timely engagement with families and disbursement of compensation. The ministry will facilitate further discussions if needed.
