The Tecnam P2006T bearing registration VT‑NBV plunged into the Ganga Barrage area at 11:25 am on 27 August, killing the deputy chief flight instructor and a trainee pilot. No distress call was made, and the aircraft carried no cockpit‑voice or flight‑data recorder, leaving investigators without the essential evidence.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau’s preliminary report, released on 29 August, found that Garg Aviation failed to comply with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s 2022 flight‑data monitoring circular. The operator claimed it performed random monitoring of its Garmin G950 system, yet it maintained no records and had no standard operating procedure outlining how monitoring was conducted or what exceedance limits applied. "When queried on flight data monitoring, the FTO stated that random monitoring of Garmin data was being carried out; however, no records of such monitoring were maintained," the report says.
The crash occurred during a scheduled training flight that involved abnormal and emergency procedures. The aircraft took off at 11:11 am, reported an "Ops Normal" call at 11:25 am, and vanished from radar shortly thereafter. Weather conditions at the time included mist, rain, low clouds, and cumulonimbus, but the preliminary findings do not yet attribute the accident to weather.
In response, the AAIB is urging the DGCA to issue specific guidelines that make flight‑data monitoring a mandatory part of every flying training organisation’s Training and Procedures Manual. An investigation remains open, and the DGCA is expected to release enforcement directives before the end of September.
