Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared the film 'Krishnavataram' tax-free in the state on Sunday after attending its special screening at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow. The event followed the expansion of the state cabinet and was attended by Governor Anandiben Patel, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, cabinet ministers, BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary, and other public representatives.
During the screening, the auditorium saw chants of 'Krishna-Krishna' and 'Radhe-Radhe,' according to an official statement. Adityanath praised the film for portraying Lord Krishna's life from a human perspective and showcasing the Dwapar era, Sanatan culture, and Indian traditions on a grand scale. He also congratulated the cast on stage, including Sanskruti, granddaughter of Governor Patel, who plays Satyabhama.
Adityanath directed the state's Information Department to organize special screenings of the film in all districts to help children and young people connect with Indian heritage. Governor Patel urged filmmakers to produce more content based on Indian culture and traditions.
'Krishnavataram,' released on May 7 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, is directed by Hardik Gajjar and stars Siddharth Gupta, Sanskruti, Sushmita Bhatt, and Nivasini Krishnan. Jackie Shroff and Ashutosh Rana play key supporting roles. The state government will implement the tax exemption immediately.
The Chief Minister's office confirmed that cultural outreach through cinema will be a continuing focus, with further screenings scheduled to begin within the week.
