Aavin announced price hikes for 63 dairy and confectionery items in a press release dated Thursday, citing a 12% rise in raw‑material costs and higher production overheads. The revised rates will apply from Wednesday, 28 October 2026, just as the Diwali shopping frenzy begins.
Under the new schedule, a 100‑gram pack of ghee will cost ₹95 instead of ₹85, while a 500‑ml bottle jumps from ₹365 to ₹400. Butter will rise from ₹60 to ₹70 per 100‑gram pack, and a 100‑gram rasgulla will cost ₹50 rather than ₹45.
Milk‑based beverages see sharper increases: a 200‑ml lassi will move from ₹20 to ₹23, and ten varieties of milkshakes will climb from ₹30 to ₹35. Curds and buttermilk also see adjustments— a 500‑gram curd will cost ₹40 versus ₹35, and a 200‑ml buttermilk bottle will rise from ₹8 to ₹10.
The price surge comes as Tamil Nadu’s Dairy Development Department reports a 9% surge in dairy‑raw‑material prices nationwide, prompting Aavin to adjust its price structure to keep operations viable. Residents in Chennai and Coimbatore have already noted the steepening bills as they stock up on staples for festive feasts.
Consumer groups in Tamil Nadu have called for a review of the price hike, arguing that it will strain household budgets during the Diwali period. They plan to file formal complaints with the Tamil Nadu Consumer Protection Authority within the next week, while Aavin has pledged to monitor market reactions and adjust prices quarterly.
