Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay met DMK President MK Stalin at Stalin's Alwarpet residence in Chennai on Monday, marking his first in-person interaction with his predecessor since winning the April 23 assembly elections. The visit, characterized as a courtesy call, took place amid efforts to normalize political relations following a fiercely contested campaign between Stalin's DMK and Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi Stalin welcomed Vijay with a handshake and embrace, while Vijay reciprocated with a hug. The leaders exchanged silk shawls and floral bouquets, symbolic of mutual respect, in a brief but widely observed meeting. TVK secured a majority in the polls, ending DMK's tenure after a single term.
The meeting signals a move toward political decorum despite the acrimonious election rhetoric between the two parties. Senior officials from both sides confirmed that the discussion remained cordial and focused on the state's administrative continuity.
The court will resume hearing on Tuesday.
