FIIs dumped ₹3,458.70 crore of Indian equities on Oct 22, sending the Nifty to 22,688 after a 124‑point slide, the third straight loss for the benchmark index. The sell‑pressure was deeper than the 1,022.32‑crore net purchase seen on Oct 21, a reversal that rattled sentiment.
During the session, FIIs bought ₹13,627.54 crore and sold ₹17,086.24 crore, netting a ₹3,458.70 crore outflow. Domestic institutional investors, by contrast, net bought ₹2,891.32 crore, buying ₹16,242.83 crore and selling ₹13,351.51 crore. The disparity widened the day after both groups had been net buyers the previous day.
The Sensex fell 460 points to 73,249, while the midcap index plunged 502 points to 57,064, hitting a six‑month low. Nifty’s decline pushed it below its 20‑day moving average, with 38 constituents closing in the red. Market breadth remained weak, with roughly three stocks falling for every one that advanced.
Eternal and Swiggy slid 3% each, Nestle fell 3% on the day and 6% for the week, and KEI Industries plunged 8% after a cautious margin outlook. On the upside, Bajaj Finance rebounded 4% from its intraday low, UltraTech Cement gained 1% following positive commentary, and SRF recovered 7% to finish 1% higher. Indian Hotels posted a 4% gain on better‑than‑expected Q2 earnings, while PB Fintech closed 3% higher after a sharp recovery.
Crude oil prices hovering above $112 a barrel added to the headwinds, and the market now watches the next earnings releases. DIIs’ net buying suggests a potential shift, but the broader sell‐side momentum and the Nifty’s breach of the 20‑day moving average keep downside risk in play.
