Vinesh Phogat arrived in Gonda on Monday and responded to the WFI's show-cause notice, arguing that she is eligible to return to competition. She claimed that she had informed United World Wrestling (UWW) in June about her intention to resume competition after retirement and had therefore complied with the required procedures for a comeback.
The WFI, however, is unconvinced by Vinesh's explanation, with sources stating that her reply is not sufficient and that she has not answered the full show-cause notice.
The federation had earlier declared Vinesh ineligible for domestic events until June 26, 2026, citing the mandatory six-month notice period linked to retired athletes returning under anti-doping regulations.
The controversy surrounding Vinesh's retirement and eligibility to compete is ongoing, with the women's weigh-ins scheduled between 5 pm and 7 pm on Monday and the competition set to begin on Tuesday. The WFI will likely continue to review Vinesh's case, with a disciplinary hearing expected to take place in the near future.
