The State Election Commission announced that civic polls for the Greater Bengaluru Authority area will be conducted in June, prompting varied reactions from parties. Former councillors stated that their respective parties have completed preliminary groundwork and are ready for the elections.
Abdul Wajid, former councillor and petitioner in the Supreme Court case, said the Congress party has completed booth-level work and finished the application process, with candidate selection in its final stages.
In contrast, G. Padmavathi, former mayor representing the Congress, opined that the SEC decided to conduct the elections without taking the government into confidence, citing potential staff crunch and inadequate preparation.
BJP representatives, who had earlier doubted the likelihood of elections, are now saying they are fully prepared and will head into the polls with a positive mindset, with N.R. Ramesh stating that the party is in the final stage of planning.
The court will resume hearing on the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, which has been challenged, and the State Election Commission will proceed with the election preparations as scheduled.
