Four Arrested in Hyderabad Dog Abandonment Case, One Animal Dead

Sangareddy Police have arrested four individuals from Calvary Temple in connection with the abandonment of more than 30 dogs, including Siberian Huskies and a German Shepherd, on the Shankarpally–Patancheru road near Hyderabad. The suspects—Neethipuri Satyanarayana, Vandaluri Sudheer Babu, Madda Sundar Singh, and Sapati Annavaram Satyanarayana—were taken into custody Thursday following an investigation into the incident reported April 29.
Animal welfare organizations filed a complaint at BDL Bhanur police station, prompting the case to be registered under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 11(1)(i) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The dogs were found in critical condition near Oxygen County and Keshavanagar Venture in Sangareddy district, with one Husky dying hours after rescue due to severe dehydration.
District Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj said the accused cited insufficient space and the animals' advancing age as reasons for abandonment, leaving the cold-climate Huskies exposed to intense summer heat. CCTV footage helped trace and seize the vehicle used in the act near Calvary Temple in Miyapur. Twelve dogs have been rescued by AASRA and Shakuntala Society for Animal Welfare and Nature (SWAN), which is providing medical care.
The rescued animals are under veterinary supervision and will be made available for adoption once their health stabilizes. SWAN and AASRA continue efforts to rehabilitate the surviving dogs.
Authorities have sent a letter to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation seeking information on whether Calvary Temple holds a valid license for dog breeding and maintenance. The court hearing in the case is scheduled for next week.
