A 10-year-old boy, identified as Harshith, was killed in a leopard attack in Nagamale forests near Malai Mahadeshwara Hills in Chamarajanagar district on Sunday, May 10, 2026. The boy, a native of Bengaluru, was visiting the M.M. Hills Temple with his family when the leopard attacked him and dragged him away.
The boy's body was found about half an hour later, with severe injuries, including a bloody neck and other parts, according to locals. The Forest Department watchers were informed, and they reached the spot to investigate the incident.
The locals have alleged negligence by the Forest Department, citing the killing of a youth in a similar leopard attack in January this year. The continuing leopard attacks in the region have caused fear and anxiety among devotees and the public.
The Forest Department has launched an investigation into the incident, and senior officials are expected to take necessary measures to prevent such attacks in the future. The police and forest officials will resume their investigation on Monday to determine the cause of the attack and to take steps to ensure the safety of the public.
