Andhra Pradesh's IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh said the proposed integrated township in Amaravati will be similar to Singapore's Punggol district and will serve as a benchmark for urban areas in India. Lokesh made the statement during a meeting of the Joint Implementation Working Committee in Singapore on Monday, where he requested that the project be expedited and necessary support be sought from the World Bank.
The Andhra Pradesh government is expecting support from the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry for developing the Amaravati Economic Region to global standards. The State government has already issued a Request for Proposal for the Amaravati integrated township project.
The minister suggested that opportunities to boost trade between Southeast Asia and East Asia be explored, and said Andhra Pradesh wishes to become a Global MICE destination. The State government plans to study Singapore's Suntec City model and assured a business-friendly environment for companies already invested in or looking to enter AP.
The governments of AP and Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding in November 2025 focused on developing the Amaravati integrated model township, the AER, and digital transformation and real-time governance. The next steps will involve the implementation of the proposed project, with the AP government expected to provide updates on the progress in the coming weeks.
