Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu flew over the battered districts of Krishna, West Godavari and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema on Thursday, inspecting flooded paddy fields, uprooted coconut trees and damaged banana plantations. The aerial sweep covered Nimmakuru, Pamarru, Bantumilli, Narasapuram, Palakollu, Amalapuram and Katrenikona, while ground visits to Vetlapalem and Gachakayalapora revealed waterlogged fields and collapsed irrigation canals.
Naidu met a farmer in Vetlapalem whose paddy crop, due for harvest in 15 days, had vanished under the floodwater. "The field is a mess, and the harvest is gone," the farmer said, eyes hollowed by worry. He added that the loss could push the district’s agricultural output lower than projected.
At a press conference in Mummidivaram, Naidu announced that preliminary damage estimates reached Rs 4,600 crore and that the figure could rise after a detailed assessment. He said he had briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah and submitted the preliminary report to the Centre.
The state government will credit compensation directly to farmers' bank accounts once assessments are complete, and will pay Rs 1,500 for each damaged coconut or oil‑palm tree. Relief camps will receive 25 kg of rice, essential commodities and financial aid, while power and telecom lines are being restored and fallen trees cleared.
Central teams are scheduled to visit the affected areas on October 30 to conduct a thorough damage assessment, and the state has requested additional support from Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to expedite repairs. The next phase will see the government releasing funds to eligible beneficiaries and coordinating with the Union to secure further assistance.
