BFI has suspended its secretary general Pramod Kumar with immediate effect, after President Ajay Singh issued a Tuesday order citing financial irregularities.
The heart of the row lies in a claim from Pinnacle Broadcast Productions for roughly Rs 1.5 crore to cover services at the November 2025 World Boxing Finals Cup in Greater Noida. Kumar had previously alleged that Pinnacle had committed Rs 2 crore, a figure the company denies.
Kumar, who sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing Singh and Executive Director Col. Arun Malik of "criminal intimidation" to block a no‑confidence motion, is also charged with signing work orders without the federation’s finance committee approval and trying to convene a special meeting to oust Singh.
The suspension is temporary, the order stresses, and it does not amount to a final determination of the accusations. It remains in force until the inquiry concludes or the order is altered.
An inquiry committee set up on August 17 to probe the abrupt cancellation of the Elite Men and Women Open Championship in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, found Kumar repeatedly seeking delays and refusing to answer its questions, a factor that tipped the scales toward suspension.
With the federation’s top brass in flux, the next big test will come at the World Boxing Finals Cup in November, where the BFI must prove it can regroup before the global spotlight turns back to India’s boxing scene.
