Petbasheerabad police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Bandi Bhageerath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay, after a 17-year-old girl alleged he sexually assaulted her at a farmhouse in Moinabad on December 31. Authorities confirmed the complainant's age and initiated legal proceedings under the POCSO Act based on her family's complaint.
Bhageerath, in a separate complaint filed at II Town police station in Karimnagar, alleged that he had been in a consensual relationship with the girl and that her family demanded ₹5 crore after pressuring him to marry her. Police in Karimnagar have registered a case based on his complaint and launched an inquiry into the alleged extortion.
The girl's family later approached Petbasheerabad police in Hyderabad, stating she was a minor at the time of the incident, which triggered the POCSO case. Officials said both complaints are being investigated independently and that forensic and testimonial evidence will be examined to establish facts.
Investigations into both the sexual assault allegation and the blackmail claim are ongoing, with police officials stating that all parties will be questioned and evidence collected before any conclusions are drawn. The court will take cognizance of the findings once the probe is complete.
