The 24th edition of The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling Fair was held at the SJRC auditorium of Sri Jagadguru Renukacharya College in Bengaluru on Saturday, attracting approximately 1,000 students and parents. Around 42 higher education institutions, including medical and engineering colleges, as well as banks, participated in the event to guide attendees on academic and career pathways.
M.C. Sudhakar, Minister for Higher Education, Karnataka, urged introducing career counselling at the Class 8 level, citing rapid technological change and shifting job markets. He warned against the overemphasis on Computer Science engineering, noting only 17% of engineering graduates secure employment, and announced regulatory action to cap CS seats based on the S. Sadagopan Committee report.
Experts highlighted interdisciplinary education and practical training as critical. K.R. Venugopal, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, stressed hybrid engineering courses integrating AI and robotics. Balakrishna Shetty, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, emphasized hospital infrastructure in medical college selection, while Nitu Ghosh and Kavitha Parmesh outlined growing opportunities in management and chartered accountancy.
Officials from KEA and career counsellors provided guidance on CET-2026 counselling and skill development. Ameen E-Mudassar, CEO of CIGMA, advised students to pursue multiple internships and resist peer-driven career decisions. The fair concluded with sponsors including ICAI, REVA University, and CMR University supporting the initiative.
