Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday criticized the BJP's 'BSY Abhimanotsava' event honoring former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, saying questions about the event are being raised by BJP leaders themselves. Speaking in Kalaburagi, Kharge stated the function is a BJP party programme, but internal dissent over its scale and timing reflects deeper leadership issues within the party.
He noted that some BJP figures have publicly questioned holding a high-profile event for Yediyurappa amid ongoing allegations against him, calling these concerns legitimate and demanding party leadership address them. Kharge said the lack of a strong, unified leadership in the BJP has forced it to rely on publicity campaigns and emotional appeals instead of projecting a credible next-generation leadership.
The minister pointed to open disagreements among BJP MLAs and leaders as evidence of eroding internal confidence, stating that when party members question major decisions, it signals instability. He further alleged that the BJP is misusing central agencies like the ED, CBI, and Election Commission for political gains and claimed governors in several states are acting as party puppets.
Kharge defended the Congress's recent alliance decisions in Tamil Nadu, saying local leadership input guided support for TVK to prevent communal forces from gaining power. He challenged the BJP to contest elections without alleged institutional backing, urging fair and transparent democratic processes. The court will resume hearing on Tuesday.
