India Issues Urgent Advisory for Umrah Pilgrims in Saudi Amid Houthi Drone Attacks

The Indian Consulate General in Jeddah announced on Saturday that it would issue a fresh advisory for Umrah pilgrims travelling in Saudi Arabia as Houthi drone strikes intensified, leading to widespread flight cancellations. The advisory comes after a series of attacks on civilian infrastructure in the region, which have forced airlines to suspend services between Jeddah, Makkah and India. The consulate’s 24–3 hour control rooms in both cities are now operating at full capacity to assist stranded Indians.

The mission is offering on‑ground aid, including food, essential medicines and immediate necessities wherever feasible, with help from local community associations and volunteers. Pilgrims who have lost accommodation or who face other logistical hurdles are urged to reach out to the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s Pilgrim Care Centre at 1966 to register their concerns and obtain a case reference number.

In parallel, the consulate is keeping regular contact with Saudi ministries of Hajj and Umrah as well as Foreign Affairs to resolve issues related to visa validity and delayed departures. It is also liaising with Indian airlines to address passenger complaints, including refunds for cancelled flights. Tour operators are being connected with airlines that still run services to India so that alternative travel can be arranged, subject to seat availability and applicable fares.

Pilgrims are advised to remain in constant contact with their airlines, travel agents or Umrah service providers to manage cancellations, rebookings or refunds. The consulate will continue to coordinate with all stakeholders to facilitate the early return of affected Indian nationals. The next step is a coordinated effort to expedite flight resumption and safe repatriation.
