Australia has decided to rest top fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood for the upcoming white-ball tour of Pakistan and Bangladesh, citing workload management. The team will be captained by Mitchell Marsh during the tour, which begins with a three-match ODI series against Pakistan on May 30.
The selectors have picked several young and less experienced players, including Ollie Peake and Liam Scott, as the team continues preparing for next year’s T20 World Cup. Riley Meredith and Billy Stanlake have also returned to the squad.
Senior all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been left out of the T20 squad for the Bangladesh series, while young batter Joel Davies received his first call-up. Several Australian players may also miss the Pakistan ODIs due to IPL playoff commitments.
The tour gives Australia a chance to test younger talent and build squad depth ahead of major international tournaments. The squads for the tour include a mix of experienced and young players, with Mitchell Marsh leading the team in both the ODI and T20I series.
The court is not involved in this matter, but the Australian team will next be in action on May 30, when they take on Pakistan in the first ODI. The team will then travel to Bangladesh for a series of ODIs and T20Is, with the final match scheduled for June 21.
