A Dalit bride, Pooja Meghwal, was forcibly made to dismount a mare during her wedding procession in Hariau village under Dabok Police Station in Udaipur district on April 29, 2026, triggering protests and demands for justice. Villagers and members of the Dalit community say the act was caste-based discrimination, and they have called for a thorough investigation and accountability.
On May 7, Bahujan Samaj Party members and Dalit activists rallied at the Udaipur municipal premises and marched to the district collectorate, where Ms. Meghwal rode the mare again in a symbolic act of defiance. Protesters submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding the transfer of the investigation to an independent officer, the arrest of nine named accused, and compensation and security for the victim's family. So far, police have arrested four individuals in connection with the incident.
Bhim Army leaders Jitendra Hatwal and Roshan Meghwal accused the police of shielding the accused and called the current probe inadequate. They warned of a protest in Jaipur if their demands are not met. Police confirmed an FIR has been registered at Dabok frolice Station and stated the investigation is ongoing.
