16 Killed After Bus and Diesel Tanker Collision in Sumatra

A passenger bus and a diesel tanker collided on a road in North Musi Rawas Regency, Sumatra, killing 16 people and injuring four others, officials said on Wednesday. Fourteen of the victims were bus passengers and two were tanker crew members, according to disaster‑agency official Hasbi Hasidqi.
The crash, which erupted into a large fire, was reportedly caused by a burst tyre on the bus that caused the driver to lose control. The tanker was carrying diesel fuel, and the resulting flames engulfed both vehicles.
Four passengers were hospitalized, three with serious burns, according to a separate emergency official. The incident adds to a series of transport accidents in Indonesia, where aging vehicles are common.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash and are coordinating with local emergency services. The investigation will continue while medical teams treat the injured.
Officials have not yet released a definitive cause, but preliminary findings point to tyre failure as the trigger for the loss of control and subsequent fire.
