Seema Pahuja, a seasoned CBI officer, has been tasked to spearhead the inquiry into Disha Salian’s death after a Bombay High Court directive, marking a pivotal shift from the earlier accidental death report.
Disha Salian fell from the 14th floor of a Malad residential building on June 8, 2020. Though police initially ruled the incident a suicide, her father filed a petition alleging gang rape and murder, prompting the court to order a fresh investigation.
Pahuja, now Superintendent of Police in the Special Crime Unit, is known for tackling complex cases such as the 2024 Kolkata RG Kar Hospital rape‑murder, the Hathras case, and the Unnao rape investigation. Her record includes a Gold Medal for Best Investigating Officer in 2021.
The FIR lists offences ranging from criminal conspiracy and gang rape to destruction of evidence and falsification of records by a public servant. No individual has yet been named as an accused; the focus now is on gathering eyewitness accounts and forensic data.
Investigators will interview attendees of the party held at Rohan Roy’s house the night before Salian’s death, aiming to link the events to the available evidence. The next phase involves compiling statements and forensic reports, with a preliminary report expected by the end of the month.
