Tim Armoo Loses £110,000, Builds Fanbytes, Sells for Eight Figures at 27

In 2015, 17‑year‑old Tim Armoo turned a tutoring side‑gig into a publishing venture that attracted Horizon Media’s attention, leading to a £110,000 purchase that catapulted him into early financial freedom.

But the windfall was short‑lived. Armoo gambled the proceeds on spread betting and a dental affiliate, losing the entire sum before he hit 19. "I was cocky," he told Fortune, "and I started to invest in stuff I had zero clue about."

After the crash, he refocused on building rather than speculating. In 2017, while still at university, he launched Fanbytes, an influencer‑marketing agency that leveraged the boom in social‑media advertising to attract brands like McDonald’s and Amazon.

Fanbytes grew to a six‑figure operation, and in 2022 Brainlabs acquired it for a reported eight‑figure sum, making Armoo a multimillion‑pound entrepreneur at 27. The deal underscored his shift from novice investor to seasoned founder.

Yet the euphoria was fleeting. For half a year after the sale, Armoo wrestled with emptiness and uncertainty, a common post‑exit malaise he had dismissed before. He now channels that experience into mentoring young founders, warning them that wealth without wisdom can evaporate.
