Two men, riding a motorcycle, snatched the gold earrings of Amritjit Kaur, the sarpanch of Saidolehal village, on Thursday. The robbery was caught on a local CCTV camera, which shows the suspects approaching Kaur’s home while she was inside.
Kaur was in her house when the men arrived. One of them asked her granddaughter, who was washing a scooter outside, to call the sarpanch. When Kaur stepped out, the other suspect stood near the entrance and the first stayed on the bike. While talking about chickens, the men diverted her attention and one of them grabbed and tore off her earrings from both ears. Kaur tried to stop them, but she lost her balance and fell onto the road.
Police reached the scene shortly after the incident and examined the area. Based on Kaur’s statement, a case has been registered against the unidentified accused. The investigating team is reviewing the CCTV footage and is trying to identify the suspects by their appearance and the motorcycle used.
Residents of Saidolehal have expressed alarm over the attack on a senior leader and are demanding the swift arrest of the culprits. The village council has called for increased security patrols around the sarpanch’s residence.
The police have intensified the probe and expect to identify the suspects within the next few days. Once identified, they will be taken into custody for questioning and possible arrest.
