Three suspects have been arrested from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in connection with the murder of Chandranath Rath, a close aide of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, police said Monday. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) apprehended the accused in Uttar Pradesh following digital and technical surveillance linked to the killing, which occurred in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas district, on the night of May 6.
The suspects were identified as Vishal Srivastava from Buxar district in Bihar and two others from Uttar Pradesh, one of whom is believed to be a sharpshooter. Investigators said at least eight individuals were involved in the conspiracy and execution of the murder, with evidence pointing to prior reconnaissance of the target location.
The SIT traced interstate connections and digital footprints to track the suspects, confirming their origins outside West Bengal. Police said the breakthrough resulted from coordinated technical and field operations across state lines.
Further investigations are underway, and authorities expect to make additional arrests as the probe continues. The court proceedings and formal charges are expected to follow in the coming days.
