The West Bengal cabinet, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, approved six key decisions in its first meeting, including initiating land transfer for fencing along the India-Bangladesh border and implementing central schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The state also committed to enrolling in central programs including PM Jan Arogya Yojana, PM Ujjwala, Fasal Yojana, and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, with implementation to begin shortly.
The cabinet paid tribute to 321 BJP workers allegedly killed in political violence and directed the state government to support their families. It also approved a five-year extension for state government employees and agreed to allow IAS and IPS officers to undergo central training, reversing the previous administration's stance.
Land transfer to the Border Security Force (BSF) for border fencing must be completed within 45 days, the government said. Administrative reshuffles are underway, with senior appointments and re-postings initiated shortly after Adhikari took office on May 9. The Election Commission's pre-poll bureaucratic adjustments are expected to be followed by further structural changes in phases.
Officials confirmed that the implementation of all approved schemes will be coordinated with central authorities. Pending applications under Ujjwala Yojana will be reviewed for resolution.
The government will resume administrative restructuring in the coming weeks, with further appointments and policy rollouts expected as the new administration consolidates control.
