Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has ordered a probe into allegations of irregularities in the procurement of medical equipment, including claims of inflated prices and purchases from ineligible suppliers. On Saturday, he directed Health Secretary Saurabh Gaur to investigate and submit a detailed report on the findings.
The inquiry follows media reports alleging that unnecessary equipment was procured and firms previously disqualified were re-engaged. The Minister instructed the Health Secretary to assess current procurement practices and propose measures to improve transparency and accountability in the system.
APMSIDC Executive Director Krishna Mohan met the Minister and stated he had no role in finalizing technical specifications for purchases. He confirmed he had reconsidered procurement proposals only twice, providing clarification on his involvement. The Minister also discussed plans for future transfers within the department, directing officials to implement an online system for efficient and error-free transfer processes by 2026.
The Health Department will review the findings once the report is submitted. The Minister has emphasized the need for timely and transparent public procurement, with official action expected based on the inquiry's recommendations.
