The mock drill, part of a series of security exercises across West Bengal, saw participants from the Railway Protection Force, West Bengal Special Task Force, Police and Fire Services working in unison.
The exercise focused on a staged terrorist assault on the Vande Bharat Express, with teams practising rapid cordoning, casualty evacuation and coordinated fire suppression.
It follows earlier drills in the Sundarbans and at Haldia, where NSG units practised hostage‑rescue, bomb disposal and maritime response alongside the Indian Coast Guard and Navy.
The outcomes will feed into the Ministry of Home Affairs’ annual security framework; a briefing is scheduled for October 5 to assess lessons learned and update operational protocols.
The drill highlighted the need to protect the millions of daily commuters who rely on Howrah station, underscoring the importance of seamless inter‑agency coordination at critical transport hubs.
