The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch has solved a murder case that remained unsolved for over three decades, with DNA evidence identifying skeletal remains as those of Farzana Dosubhai Radhanpuri, who went missing in 1992. The breakthrough came after police received a tip-off regarding a property in Kutubnagar, Sayyedwadi, and excavated a cesspool where the remains were found.
The remains were sent to the Forensic Medicine Department at BJ Medical College for examination, and subsequent DNA profiling confirmed that they belonged to Farzana. According to investigators, Farzana's husband, Shamshuddin Musaji Khedawala, allegedly conspired with family members to murder her following prolonged domestic disputes.
Police claimed the accused believed Farzana's lifestyle had brought conflict into the family, and that they murdered her and buried her body inside the property to destroy evidence.
The accused, including Shamshuddin Musaji Khedawala, Iqbal Musaji Khedawala, Abdul Karim Yakubji Javarawala, and Shaliyabibi Samudkhan Pathan, have been charged under IPC Sections 302, 201, and 120B. The case was cracked after the family's guilt and terror led them to seek out occult practices, during which they revealed details of the crime to the outside world, ultimately reaching the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch.
The court will hear the case next, with further investigation underway to gather more evidence against the accused.
