Yemen’s Iran‑backed Houthi movement said on Saturday it struck Saudi Arabia’s capital airport and three other critical sites, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Dammam and Najran airports, the Khamis Mushait air base, crude oil pumping stations, and an east‑west pipeline.
Military spokesman Yahya Saree said the attacks were carried out in two phases, with the first targeting Riyadh’s airport runways and fuel depots, followed by missile and drone strikes on the eastern and southern airports. He added that the oil facilities were hit to disrupt fuel supplies across the kingdom.
The Houthi group has a history of striking Saudi oil infrastructure, most notably the 2019 strike on Ras Tanura’s refinery that disrupted global crude shipments. This latest claim follows a pattern of escalating attacks amid the ongoing Yemen conflict.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior has increased security at all major airports, and the Defense Ministry has called for a counter‑strike. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman urged the military to neutralise the threat and protect civilian infrastructure, with a retaliatory operation expected within 48 hours.
