Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said Monday that his government will not stop welfare programs launched by the previous administration, including the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme. The scheme, launched in 2021, provides financial assistance to women from economically weaker sections of society.
Adhikari made the announcement after a cabinet meeting, where six decisions were taken, including a message of thanks to the Election Commission and condolences to the family of BJP workers who died in political violence.
The cabinet also decided to hand over land to the Border Security Force to complete fences along the Bangladesh border and to implement the central government's flagship health insurance scheme, Ayushman Bharat.
The new government will also implement the new criminal laws, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which was opposed by the previous administration.
The court will resume hearing on the implementation of these decisions, and the government is expected to provide more details on the rollout of the welfare programs in the coming days.
