The incident unfolded Tuesday night in Chaitanya Vihar Colony, where the water tank at Maharishi Parini Sanskrit Vidhyalaya was being cleared by students to avoid daytime disruption.
According to a video shared by survivor Rudra Videsh, the first student, Manu Katara, entered the tank and collapsed after about five minutes; Guruji later ordered other students to check on him.
Subsequent to the collapse, four more students—Rishab Sharma, Aryan Sharma, and Devansh, along with a 17‑year‑old from Vidisha—entered and also became unconscious, prompting a chaotic rescue.
The students were transported to the local hospital where the medical superintendent, Dr. Vinit Yadav, declared four dead and one stable; bodies are now awaiting post‑mortem.
District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh ordered a city magistrate inquiry, and police have seized CCTV footage to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow on X, offering ₹4 lakh to each bereaved family; he also called for stricter safety checks in educational institutions.
