Starbucks announced it will open a 800‑person Global Capability Centre in Chennai, a move that will consolidate services currently outsourced abroad.
Chennai has become a magnet for global tech firms; the new centre will join companies such as Infosys, Wipro and Tata Consultancy Services in building business, technology and other capabilities for clients worldwide.
The GCC will work closely with Starbucks' technology and business teams in the United States, enabling the coffee giant to bring functions such as analytics, supply‑chain planning and customer‑experience design in‑house.
Industry analysts say the move will strengthen Starbucks' supply‑chain resilience and boost the city’s reputation as a hub for high‑value tech talent, while creating opportunities for local graduates and boosting ancillary services.
The centre will serve as the first phase of Starbucks' strategy to bring outsourced work in‑house.
