Pakistan Army Chief Warns of 'Widespread' War if India Attempts 'Misadventure'

Pakistan's Chief of Defence Staff and Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, warned on Monday that any future 'misadventure' by India against Pakistan would result in 'extremely widespread, dangerous, far-reaching and painful' consequences. Speaking at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, Munir claimed Pakistan's military strategy had been 'superior' to India's during the May 2025 conflict triggered by the Pahalgam terror attack.
Munir alleged that India had 'violated the sovereignty and territory' of Pakistan during last year's hostilities and claimed Islamabad responded with 'full national unity and military force'. He described the conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors as a decisive 'battle between two ideologies' in which 'truth won and falsehood was defeated', citing a Quranic verse to underscore his remarks.
India conducted Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2024, launching airstrikes on nine terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), eliminating at least 100 militants. Pakistan responded with retaliatory strikes, most of which were intercepted by Indian air defenses, before both sides agreed to de-escalate on May 10 through military hotline talks.
This is the latest in a series of confrontational statements from Munir, who in December 2024 threatened that Pakistan's future response to Indian actions would be 'swifter, more severe, and more intense', including possible strikes on Indian infrastructure such as Indus River dams. Indian defense officials have yet to issue a formal statement on the latest remarks.
The Indian government is expected to review the comments during the next National Security Council meeting, while diplomatic channels remain open through backchannel communications. Military analysts in New Delhi say no immediate operational changes have been ordered along the Line of Control.
