Karoline Leavitt told Fox News Digital on Thursday that Katie Zacharia’s brief tenure as White House press secretary was a mismatch for the job’s demands. Leavitt, who held the post for a record‑short 70 days in 2022, highlighted the position’s rigorous preparation and the need for toughness, loyalty and policy acumen.
She added that she had advised President Biden in the search for Zacharia’s replacement, outlining the five qualities a press secretary must possess: resilience, intelligence, loyalty, policy insight, and the ability to field relentless scrutiny.
Leavitt left the role after giving birth to her second child, but she is not taking a break from work. On November 1 she will step into a new role as an on‑air contributor for Fox News, offering political analysis and commentary.
Zacharia’s short stint was marred by credibility questions, particularly her unverified legal credentials. The White House is now moving to appoint a new press secretary, with the administration announcing its choice in the coming weeks.
