In a Wednesday ruling, the Supreme Court halted the release of the final candidate list for Andhra Pradesh's local body polls, citing widespread violence that obstructed nominations.
TDP leader Pawan Kumar Reddy's car was set ablaze in Sadum Mandal, and a TDP woman candidate in Chittoor, who relies on a walker, was attacked while filing her nomination.
YSRCP MLC Kalpalataraddi alleged that TDP goons blocked MPTC and ZPTC nominations, while former MLA TJR Sudhakar Babu praised the Court for exposing irregularities, noting that 459 wards saw no nominations.
The Court directed the Commission to probe every complaint, and a new deadline for the candidate list will be set once the inquiry into the incidents concludes, with the first round of elections expected to shift by at least two weeks.
