Blue Star’s bottom line defied cautious market expectations. Consolidated profit attributable to owners of the company rose 25.5% year-on-year to ₹123.92 crore in the September quarter of FY27, crushing the street estimate of ₹70 crore. The company generated revenue from operations of ₹2,930.95 crore, up 21% from ₹2,422.37 crore a year ago, comfortably ahead of the ₹2,760 crore forecast. This top-line strength was the primary driver behind the earnings beat, even as margins remained under pressure from operational costs.
The quality of the earnings deserves a closer look. Operating profit (EBITDA excluding other income) climbed 10.4% to ₹202.58 crore, but the margin compressed to 6.9% from 7.6% in the corresponding quarter last year. That said, 6.9% still sits well above the 5.3% median estimate from analysts. A key factor in the profit surge was a one-time exceptional gain of ₹23.02 crore from the sale of the MedTech business. Excluding this, the core operational improvement is solid but marginally tighter than a year ago due to higher material costs that the company couldn’t fully pass on to customers.
Segmental performance shows a mixed bag. The unitary products division, a critical revenue driver, saw revenue jump 29.4% to ₹897.66 crore, aided by a delayed monsoon and extended summer boosting room AC demand. However, segment profit halved to ₹20.74 crore from ₹42.72 crore earlier, highlighting the margin squeeze from raw material inflation. On the flip side, the professional electronics and industrial systems segment exploded 51.2% to ₹97.30 crore, with profits tripling to ₹23.10 crore. The electro-mechanical projects and commercial HVAC segment remained the largest revenue contributor at ₹1,935.99 crore, up 16.3%, though its profit dipped slightly to ₹133.15 crore.
Balance sheet strength is improving. As of September 30, 2026, Blue Star reported a net cash position of ₹289.43 crore, a sharp turnaround from net borrowings of ₹417.06 crore a year prior. The order book also ticked up to ₹7,229.22 crore from ₹7,120.44 crore, signaling steady future revenue visibility. Total expenses rose 22.3% to ₹2,813.13 crore, slightly outpacing revenue growth, but other income improved to ₹15.79 crore from ₹10.01 crore, helping cushion the net profit impact.
Looking ahead, Chairman and Managing Director Vir S Advani pointed to strong festive season demand for room ACs and a healthy pipeline of Data Centre MEP projects that could drive significant order inflows in the coming months. He flagged a potential deficient monsoon and higher interest rates as near-term risks but emphasized calibrated price revisions and cost optimization to protect margins. Shares reacted positively, closing 4.69% higher at ₹1,673 on the BSE on October 29.
