Indian Railways cancelled all Mail and Express services that were to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10, according to a ruling issued on October 9 by the Railway Ministry’s Coaching Directorate.
The decision comes as Delhi braces for mass protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, with the Cockroach Janta Party and the INDIA Bloc calling for accountability.
The cancellations have already rattled commuters. R. Kumar, 38, who usually takes the 6 am Shatabdi to Delhi, told reporters he will have to find another vehicle.
Railway officials said the order was precautionary and will be reviewed after the protests, with the Ministry expecting to restore normal services once traffic eases.
