On Monday, Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin and Pakistani army chief General Asim Munir flew into Tehran with a delegation that also included Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s brother, to meet President Massoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
It was the first joint visit by the three Mecca‑pact members since the August defence accord that solidified their trilateral ties.
The talks followed warnings from the United States, Iran and Israel that hostilities could flare up again in the ongoing eight‑month conflict, and came as Israel heads into a pivotal election and the U.S. midterms loom.
Egypt’s parliament has approved President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi’s request for defensive aid to Saudi Arabia if needed, signalling a broader Gulf backing for de‑escalation.
The meeting ended without concrete commitments; Iranian state media reported that the parties agreed to keep the dialogue open, setting the stage for further talks before any new flare‑ups.
