Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra led a march of opposition leaders from Parliament to the Election Commission's Nirvachan Sadan on Monday, but the Delhi Police halted the march and detained several participants. Among those detained were KC Venugopal, Akhilesh Yadav, Abhishek Banerjee, Derek O'Brien, Mahua Moitra and CPI(M) MP John Brittas. In the chaos, Rahul Gandhi dashed to the reception of Akashvani Bhavan, where staff tried to block him—he pushed past the gate with his security detail. At gate number 3, Rahul told police, "I was sitting over there earlier. You removed me from there. Now I have come here, and you want to remove me from here too. I am simply asking the police—fine, if you want to remove me from here, go ahead, but just tell me where in this country can I sit?" The two leaders sat under a tree near gate 4 while staff rushed outside; the Congress posted a video of the scene, calling it "today's India" and accusing Modi of pushing the nation to a dangerous brink. KC Venugopal posted, "Unmoved. Unfazed. We will not budge until our demands are met. We will not rest until our democracy is saved from the Vote Chors." The Election Commission said it had not received any request for a meeting from the opposition. Rahul said the MPs would meet the commissioners and hold the body accountable for alleged vote tampering. The protest follows an earlier sit‑in outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence in July, where the Gandhi siblings and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge were briefly detained.
