Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a month‑long Seva campaign in Guwahati on September 17 to honor Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of uninterrupted public service. The ceremony began with Sarma, accompanied by Assam BJP State President Dilip Saikia and MLA Pradyut Bordoloi, lighting a lamp at the historic Tongora Satra and offering prayers for the leader’s continued health and strength.
The CM’s remarks echoed across the state: every household will light earthen diyas and pray at temples, satras and namghars in what he called the Ashirbad Diwa programme. Thousands of lamps will be set ablaze at prominent locations, a symbolic gesture that links personal devotion with public duty.
Beyond the rituals, Sarma unveiled 11 programmes that will run from September 17 to October 17. An Innovation Challenge competition will invite citizens to propose solutions for rural development, while community camps will allow residents to voice grievances and suggestions. The campaign also earmarks ₹278 crore to assist 82,219 young aspirants, with an ambition to reach five lakh youths under the Mukhyamantri Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan.
In a gesture of growth, the CM planted a sapling on the Satra grounds after the prayers, symbolising the seed of self‑reliance he hopes will take root in Assam’s future generations. He also formally announced the Youth Welfare and Empowerment Department, tasked with rolling out welfare initiatives across the state.
The programme culminates on October 7, the day Modi will mark his 25th year in public office. Assam’s BJP cadres view the milestone as a source of pride, and the state’s leaders say the Seva campaign will galvanise citizens to contribute to the nation’s journey toward an Atmanirbhar Bharat by 2047. The next step? A coordinated rollout of the 11 initiatives, with community leaders slated to begin the first grievance‑redressal camps next week.
