BJP veteran Sunil Jakhar told the party’s national executive that the CBI and ED must probe every MLA’s assets before the 2027 Punjab assembly elections. "I am ready for it," he said, urging a comprehensive audit that would include AAP, Congress and other opposition members.
The CBI is already in the thick of a probe that the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered after the ED flagged irregularities involving Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s office. The court directed the CBI to investigate allegations based on material shared by the ED concerning the CM’s office staff, postings, land deals and tender irregularities.
In response, the CBI has registered a case and conducted searches at multiple sites across Punjab and Chandigarh, citing allegations of land deals, tender irregularities and questionable postings. The agency is combing through files and property records to match declared incomes with actual assets.
Neel Garg, AAP Punjab spokesperson, said the party welcomes an impartial probe, but warned that central agencies should not focus exclusively on AAP. "All political parties, including Congress and BJP, must also be probed," he added.
Jakhar pointed out that some legislators, who once owned no cycle, now flaunt kothis and luxury cars, suggesting a dramatic shift in wealth. He called for their assets to be examined against their known sources of income.
The Supreme Court has been petitioned to review the high court’s directive, and a decision is expected before the 2027 polls, as both parties brace for the fallout.
