The Ministry of Finance notified the removal of the Rs 2.5 per litre special additional excise duty (SAED) for petrol exports and the hike of diesel and ATF levies effective Oct 31.
The excise changes, published in the official Gazette, mark the first major adjustment since the duties were introduced on March 27, 2026 amid the West Asia crisis to curb export‑driven shortages.
The diesel levy rose from Rs 8.5 to Rs 11.5 per litre, while aviation turbine fuel (ATF) climbed from Rs 10.5 to Rs 11 per litre, all notified separately by the Department of Revenue.
These levies are recalibrated every fortnight, tied to average international prices of crude oil, petrol, diesel and ATF, reflecting the volatile global market.
The government aims to balance domestic supply with export demands; the next adjustment will follow the fortnightly review cycle, ensuring duties stay aligned with global trends.
