Yashaswi Rohila, a 23‑year‑old second‑year MBA student, leapt from the sixth floor of Purnima College’s main building in Jaipur at about 10 a.m. on October 31, 2026, before a mid‑semester exam began. The jump followed a phone call she received minutes earlier. Police say classmates saw her on the ledge before she fell.
Rohila, a native of Gurjar Ki Thadi, had lost her father the previous year and was living with her mother, according to the college registrar. She had been preparing for the exam that day, but no motive has surfaced, the police said. The registrar noted that she had no prior record of distress.
Police seized her mobile and bag and launched an investigation. "We have spoken to her classmates, but no reason has come to light so far," a spokesperson for the Jaipur Police said to PTI. The department is scrutinizing CCTV footage from the campus.
In response, Purnima College postponed the mid‑semester exams scheduled for that day. The administration announced the decision via a notice to all students and staff, citing safety concerns.
The incident has prompted calls for mental‑health support on campus. The Vandrevala Foundation and TISS iCall have urged students to seek help and provided contact details.
